Being A Badger
Updated: Nov 23, 2021
With much excitement, Badgers are finally back on campus! New students of the Badger community have moved into residence, started classes, and meeting new friends. It seems not long ago that I was experiencing the newness of Brock University and planted my roots on this campus. Brock offers so many opportunities for individuals to learn, grow and make life-lasting memories. One of my biggest tips for new students is to become involved within the Brock community. Some of my most memorable experiences here at Brock so far include my intramural dodge ball team, the Brock Shinerama Committee, the Women's Hockey team and the SPMA Council as well as cheering on our fellow Badgers at campus sporting events. These activities and clubs allowed me to easily meet new friends, enjoy the university student life and forced me to be organized.
If you are thinking of joining an intramural team, NOW IS THE TIME! Intramurals are a great way to make lifelong friendships, have a good laugh and try a new sport. Many tournaments are hosted by Brock Recreation and any student with a valid Brock ID is able to join by simply clicking this link to view the available tournaments and registration date. As we head into fall and the sun sets earlier, intramurals will encourage you to be active with friends and support you taking study breaks. No experience is necessary to sign-up; however, be prepared to have fun. One of the things I enjoyed the most about intramurals was the opportunity for laughter, especially about my own skill!
An abundant number of clubs and committees are offered at Brock. I really encourage you to have a look at the Brock University Club Directory as it provides contact information and a description of each club. For example, there is a wide range of opportunities regarding cooking, arts, medicine, business, dance, e-sports, mental health and much more. The Brock Shinerama Club allowed me to meet new people, plan events and be inspired by many strong individuals while striving to raise awareness and funds about Cystic Fibrosis. As a new member of the SPMA Council, I have already learned so much from younger and older peers within my undergraduate program. It has been an amazing experience so far and I recommend any first-year student to look at our SPMA Council Instagram to apply as a First-Year Representative.
Badgers, Let's Rally together to cheer on our fellow students! Fall sports have begun and it is time to make great memories. Don't have a car to attend such an event? No problem, you can take the bus and come cheer on the Badgers on our home field. Check out the Badgers' Instagram for more details regarding specific teams, game times, and dates. School spirit is definitely one of my most memorable experiences in my first year and also where I met a current roommate. Make sure to be actively checking the Instagram page to find out about fan prizes. For example, the Brock Women's Rugby team played on September 25th and the Brock Campus Bookstore gave out FREE Badgers' lanyard to the first 50 fans!
As the academic year ramps up and will quickly pass by, I encourage you to get involved on campus! It is a great way to stay connected with others and meet new friends. I hope that by sharing my experiences of being involved on Brock Campus inspires you. Hope to see you out there!
Go BADGERS Go.
